Reading the book of Proverbs to learn wisdom

proverbs 041

My bible is open if front of me. Today I am reading Proverbs Chapter 1. Tomorrow I will read Proverbs Chapter 2. And on June 3rd? Yes, you guessed it. On June the third day of June, I will read Proverbs Chapter 3.

Last month I read through the book of Proverbs. I missed a few days. Some mornings I forgot to start my day with the bible and prayer. I started my day reading the news or my e-mail.

I am ashamed to say I am a fool. If you do a word search for fool in the book of proverbs, most of the bible verses for fool  apply to me.

Each day I get a little more wise as I seek wisdom and discipline from the proverbs of King Solomon, son of David, King of Israel.

1 The proverbs of Solomon son of David, king of Israel:

2 for gaining wisdom and instruction;
for understanding words of insight;
3 for receiving instruction in prudent behavior,
doing what is right and just and fair;
4 for giving prudence to those who are simple,
knowledge and discretion to the young—
5 let the wise listen and add to their learning,
and let the discerning get guidance—
6 for understanding proverbs and parables,
the sayings and riddles of the wise.

7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge,
but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Every day as  I am seek wisdom and discipline, my foolish ways become less foolish.

Do you seek wise counsel? Are you foolish? Do you start your day with the bible? What do you like to read in the morning?

Well, I sure asked you a lot of questions. Please answer just one question, or all of them, or none.

I hope your day is full of wisdom, and you are not foolish today.

Would you like to read through the book of Proverbs with me this month?

Please let me know in the comments. I would love to chat.

  • I am going to try reading through Proverbs again too.
    I missed a few days last month. I like using YouVersion to help me keep up with my Bible reading. You are very wise, Pamela, to realize what areas in your life needs work and to be open to change.

    • Thank you Anastacia. I may have wisdom to recognize what I need to change, but I am having trouble being wise enough to change. Oh dear, I read my mail today before my bible again. Time to read Proverbs Chapter 2.

  • Janelle

    I am reading the bible using an app. I didn’t think I would like it, but I really do. Part of the reading each day includes a bit of Proverbs. I appreciate the thought that are put so clearly and simply in Proverbs. I am the same as Winnie. I have been angry too much lately and that is foolish.

    • Janelle, anger really is foolish, isn’t it. Why is it easy to recognize it, and hard to change it.

  • I would love to read Proverbs with you, and I will answer one question: I don’t often enough start the day by reading the Bible. REading from Proverbs every day would be a good place to start.

    • I would love to read Proverbs with you too Kathleen. I need wisdom daily.

  • Winnie Moyer

    I think that somewhere in Proverbs it says a foolish man does not get angry, but wow I’ve been having an angry sort of day, and it took me forever to log in just to comment here LOL I wanted to say I am reading the book of Psalms, some days I read one chapter other days two of three, but most days I have to ask our Papa for so much wisdom because I do not understand what I am reading, enjoy reading Proverbs, I have read through it one time day by day, I enjoyed it 🙂

      *a foolish man GETS angry…

      • Hello Winnie. Thank you for taking the time to comment. What chapter in Psalms are you reading now? I pray for wisdom for you as you read Winnie.
        I am foolish most days.
