This is what I see when I write, books and our dog Martha painted by my youngest daughter. These photographs were taken while I was sitting at my desk. You see my room as though you were sitting in my chair.
Behind me are footprints of my three children. They were made the day they were born. I packed sheets of archival paper along with their first outfit in my suitcase for the hospital.
And to my right you can see the bottom of a wool tapestry I did in the 90’s at the Monterey Community College Weaving Class. The red stripes are a candy cane door, and the tree is a doughnut.
The books on the bookcase behind me were purchased so that I would feel like a writer. I bought books on writing. I didn’t write.
I stopped buying books on writing. I write now.
