Did you sign up for a marathon? Did you feel great when you mailed in your registration fee, and received your bib number in the mail? Are you thinking about crossing the finish line, with all of your friends and family cheering you on? In between the rush of signing up for the race and the applause at the end of the race, is The Middle.
Did you decide to write a book? Did you sit down and write the first page? Can you visualize signing books at your book launch? In between starting to write the book, and autographing books is The Middle.
Did you audition for a play, and get chosen for a part? Between getting the role and the clapping at the end of the performance is The Middle.
The middle part is what people forget about. The middle part is hard work. The Middle is training for the race, writing the book, and memorizing lines.
I am in The Middle right now. I was chosen for the part of The Wicked Witch in Dorthy Meets Alice. The first performance is in thirty days. This week I had three play practices. Some of the lines I knew, others I read from the script. I was going to count how many lines I had to memorize, but I need to be working on memorizing my lines not counting them.
In nine days, I have to be off book, and have all my lines memorized. For one week we can call “Line”, and then we have to have the lines cemented in our brains.
I memorize my lines when I wash dishes, stop at red traffic lights and when I am in the tub.
The middle is messy. But if there is no messy middle, there is no finish line, no book signing, or clapping at the end of a show.

Do the work in the middle.
You will eventually get to the finish line.
You are just not there yet.
What Middle are you in the middle of?
