I originally published this story in the evening of April 11th, 2013, the day my step-father died. My mother asked me to take the story down until she published the obituary in her local paper. His obituary is in today’s edition of The Saskatoon Star-Phoenix. Edwin Bodley, June 7, 1926 – April 11th, 2013
Edwin John Bodley, my step-father, died this morning
Edwin John Bodley’s name was written in the Bodley family Bible on June 7th, 1926. There were three Edwin Bodley’s before him, Edwin Paul, Edwin Clark, and Edwin George, Edwin John’s father. The first entry in the Bible is the wedding of Edwin Paul Bodley to Tryphena Clarke on July 24th, 1841.
The Bodley family Bible was brought to Canada from England. I don’t know when they moved to Canada from England. Edwin John gave me the Bodley family Bible in 1998 when I came home to visit.
Edwin John Bodley married my mother in 1982. He was married to my mother for 31 years, 4 months and 5 days. They had no children. Edwin John Bodley was not my father. He was my step-father. I never lived in the same house as him. However, his home was my home when I came to visit. He was a kind man. He loved my mother. I loved him.
My Mom sent me this e-mail this morning.
I love you Pamela ….. I’ve been trying to phone you…..you need to call your Mother…. if I’m not home just keep calling….. I love you, Mom
Her line was busy all day. I was able to get through in the late afternoon.
She said, “Ed died this morning.”
He heals the brokenhearted
and binds up their wounds.
