There are many articles online about habits you need to be creative. The articles suggest several habits they thought were essential to create, such as meditating, exercising, journaling, napping, working in coffee shops, and walking.
I can paint a mouse without doing any of the suggested activities. Their suggestions might assist a creative person in thinking and using their imagination. However, there is only one habit that is essential to creativity, and that is to create. As in, do the work.
Do the work
The one habit you need is, to create. Just do the work.
It’s not what we do once in a while that shapes our lives. It’s what we do consistently.

I am illustrating a story I wrote, working on it a little bit each day. A mouse at a time. Something each day. Consistent.
Don’t prepare. Begin.
― Do the Work
What are you working on now? A story? A drawing? A song? A new recipe for canned sardines?
Put a mark on a piece of paper, play a note on the piano, strum on your guitar, and try eating your sardines with steamed peas.
If you haven’t started yet. If the paper is blank in front of you, if your bottle of red paint is unopened, may you begin, may you continue each day, until you can write, “The End.”
Don’t prepare. Begin.
― Do the Work
What do you think? What habits are important to create?
Please let me know what you are working on. I would love to hear about your creative projects. May we encourage each other to believe and to do the work.
