What do you do to have a positive mindset?
Do you read in the morning to help you with your day? Or maybe you read in the evening or listen to a podcast. Journal? Yoga? Eat blueberries? Make a list of what you are grateful for?
I try to have a positive mindset by reading in the morning. Sometimes I listen to the podcast, Hidden Brain by Shankar Vedantam.
I think about doing yoga more than I do yoga. I don’t journal. I eat blueberries, and sometimes I write a list of what I am grateful for.
What works for you? What do you do you take control of your mind?
In the morning I read The Daily Stoic, by Ryan Holiday and David Hasselman, The Daily Pressfield by Steven Pressfield, and a chapter in Proverbs corresponding to the calendar day. (As in Chapter 18 on the 18th day of the month.)
I could have written this article differently. I could have searched on Google for articles on how to have a positive mindset. And titled this article… How to have a positive mindset. As if I have all the answers, and I am going to share my wisdom. However.
I don’t feel wise.
I am trying to be wise.
March 18th in The Daily Stoic, was titled Impossible Without Your Consent. Page 88 in the chapter on Awareness.
The wisdom of the day was from a quote by Marcus Aurelius, where he taught that it is our mind that makes assumptions. We can’t blame other people.
Ryan Holiday wrote, “Someone can’t frustrate you, work can’t overwhelm you – these are external objects, and they have no access to your mind. Those emotions you feel, as real as they are, come from inside, not outside.”
I wrote on page 88 in The Daily Stoic, My mindset today is overwhelmed. Feel this minute, this second, defeated on my day off. How do I treat myself?
Day 46 in The Daily Pressfield was titled The Amateur and The Pro
Pressfield writes about the difference between the amateur and the professional. “The professional shuts up. She doesn’t talk about it. She does her work.”
I want to be a professional, not an amateur.
I will do the work.
Chapter 18 in Proverbs touches on many topics. Usually, one verse will stand out more than others, depending on what is going on in my life that day.
A fool finds no pleasure in understanding
but delights in airing his own opinions.
Proverbs 18:2 NIV
I don’t want to be a fool.
I want to understand.
What do you do to have a positive mindset? Please share your wisdom. 🙂

p.s. As I write this, I don’t feel defeated. I feel hopeful. So maybe writing this article is a form of journaling and journaling helped me with my mindset.
